Rice water from washing rice has been used as a rinse for skin and hair across East Asia for generations.

In modern formulations, THE FACE SHOP uses two distinct rice fractions: rice bran (used in physical scrubs and cleansers for gentle exfoliation) and rice ceramide (a lipid compound derived from rice that closely resembles human skin ceramides, making it effective for barrier repair and moisture retention). These two functions - brightening and barrier support - map onto the two lines in this collection.

The Rice Water Bright line from THE FACE SHOP focuses on cleansing with rice-based ingredients. Two products in this range appear in the collection: the Rice Bran Gentle Scrub Foam (150ml) and the Rice Water Bright Cleansing Wipes.

The Rice Bran Gentle Scrub Foam is a foaming cleanser that combines mild surfactants with fine rice bran particles for physical exfoliation during washing. It cleans and lightly buffs in the same step without the harshness of a dedicated scrub product. The Cleansing Wipes carry the Rice Water Bright formula on a pre-moistened sheet for quick removal of light daily makeup and surface impurities without needing water. Both are suited for daily use - the foam in AM or PM, the wipes for travel or gym-bag cleanup.

The Rice & Ceramide Moisturizing Toner (150ml) appears in two near-identical SKUs in the collection: the Rice & Ceramide Moisturizing Toner and the Rice Ceramide Moisturizing Toner (the slight name variation reflects different catalog entries for the same product line). Both are the first hydration step after cleansing in the Rice & Ceramide routine.

This toner is a hydrating lotion-water that delivers ceramide precursors and rice extract into the skin while it is still absorbing. Apply with a cotton pad in downward strokes, or pat directly with clean hands. It prepares the skin for the emulsion and cream steps by softening the surface and beginning the moisture layering. At 150ml it provides roughly 2 months of daily AM + PM use with a standard cotton pad application.

The Rice & Ceramide Moisturizing Emulsion (150ml) is the second step after the toner. Emulsions in Korean routines act as a lighter moisturizer layer that seals the toner and adds a second dose of hydrating actives before the cream. The ceramide content in this emulsion targets the lipid barrier - ceramides fill the gaps between skin cells in the stratum corneum, reducing transepidermal water loss.

For dry or dehydrated skin, layering toner then emulsion then cream delivers the highest moisture retention from the Rice & Ceramide set. For oily or combination skin, the toner and emulsion combination without a cream layer provides sufficient moisture without heaviness in humid or warm conditions.

The Rice & Ceramide Cream (50ml) is the final moisturizer in the Rice & Ceramide routine. At 50ml it is a standard facial cream size. The cream provides the most occlusive layer of the three steps, sealing moisture from the toner and emulsion underneath and delivering the richest ceramide dose. It is suited for all skin types as the final step, though very oily skin may prefer the emulsion alone as a daily moisturizer and use the cream only at night.

The 2-pack option (50ml x2) gives double the product at a better per-ml cost. This is practical if you use the cream twice daily and want to stock up. The formula is identical to the single tube - the 2-pack is a quantity choice, not a reformulation.

The Ground Mask Sheet Rice is a single-use sheet mask with rice extract ground into the essence. It sits outside the daily Rice & Ceramide routine as a weekly treatment boost. Where the toner, emulsion, and cream deliver ceramide and rice extract in thin layers over time, the sheet mask delivers a concentrated essence dose in one 15-20 minute session - useful for dull skin before an event or as a mid-week brightening reset.

Rice brightening in sheet masks works best when applied to clean skin before toner, not over cream or emulsion layers which would create a barrier. After removing the sheet, proceed directly to toner and the rest of your routine to layer in the remaining essence absorption.

Full Rice & Ceramide routine: Cleanse with Rice Bran Gentle Scrub Foam (morning or evening), apply Rice & Ceramide Moisturizing Toner while skin is slightly damp, follow with Rice & Ceramide Moisturizing Emulsion, finish with Rice & Ceramide Cream (50ml). For a weekly treatment, insert the Ground Mask Sheet Rice after cleansing and before toner, using it on evenings you want a brightening boost.

The Rice Water Bright Cleansing Wipes are not a substitute for the foam cleanser in a full routine - they are for situations where water cleansing isn't practical (travel, gym, between meetings). For at-home use, the foam cleanser gives a more thorough cleanse. Morning routines using the Rice & Ceramide set should always finish with SPF - the brightening actives in rice work against photoaging, but they don't protect against new UV damage.

Dry and dehydrated skin: full three-step Rice & Ceramide routine (toner + emulsion + cream), weekly Ground Mask Sheet Rice treatment. Normal skin: toner + emulsion as daily routine, cream at night or in cold conditions. Oily or combination skin: Rice Water Bright Cleansing Wipes for midday refresh, Rice Bran Gentle Scrub Foam as cleanser, toner + emulsion as moisturizer (skip cream in warm conditions). Sensitive skin: rice and ceramide ingredients are generally well-tolerated; the ceramide focus actively supports skin barrier repair, which reduces sensitivity over time with consistent use.

The rice bran physical exfoliation in the Scrub Foam is mild enough for daily use on most skin types. People with active breakouts or compromised barrier should use it less frequently (2-3 times a week) to avoid over-exfoliation.
