Rice bran is the outer layer of the rice grain, removed during the milling process that produces white rice. It contains a concentrated combination of niacinamide (vitamin B3), ferulic acid, squalene, and fatty acids including oleic and linoleic acid. Niacinamide inhibits melanin transfer to surface skin cells, which reduces dark spots and evens skin tone with consistent daily use. Ferulic acid is an antioxidant that stabilizes UV-induced free radical damage and adds a secondary brightening effect.

In SKINFOOD's rice products, rice bran extract delivers these actives in cleansing and mask formats - the skin receives active input at the cleansing step, not just from leave-on serums or moisturizers. This approach uses the time the product is on the skin (even if only during a cleanse) to deliver a measurable brightening benefit.

The Rice Mask Wash-off is available in 100ml, 100g, and 120g sizes - all three contain the same clay-based wash-off mask formula with rice bran extract. Apply to clean, damp skin, leave for ten to fifteen minutes, then rinse. The clay draws out impurities and surface sebum while the rice bran delivers its brightening actives during the contact period.

The different sizes reflect different usage patterns: 100ml is the standard liquid-format mask; 100g and 120g are the slightly larger solid-clay formats. The Renewal version incorporates a reformulated foam base. The 150ml is the standard daily-use tube size, lasting approximately six to eight weeks at twice-daily use.

The Rice Daily Brightening Cleansing Tissue is a wipe-format cleanser soaked in a rice-extract solution. It is practical for mornings when time is limited, for mid-day freshening without a full wash, or for travel where a sink is not immediately available. The tissue cleans surface impurities and delivers a small dose of rice bran brightening actives with each use. It is not a replacement for a proper foam or gel cleanser at the end of the day when removing sunscreen and makeup, but serves well as a morning cleanse for most skin types.

The 120g Rice Mask Wash-off is the largest and most economical jar in the mask range for regular weekly use. The 100g and 100ml sizes are practical for trying the product before committing to the largest size. The cleansing foam at 150ml is the correct daily-use size - the Renewal version offers the same volume with a reformulated base that may be worth trying if the original formula felt drying.

For someone new to the SKINFOOD rice line, a practical starting combination is the Rice Daily Brightening Cleansing Foam (daily use) and the Rice Mask Wash-off 120g (weekly intensive). These two products together cover daily cleansing with brightening benefit and a weekly deeper brightening treatment without overlap.

Dull or uneven skin tone is the most common fit - the niacinamide and ferulic acid in rice bran deliver measurable brightening over several weeks of consistent use. Normal and combination skin types handle the full range well, including the Black Sugar Rice Scrub. Dry skin is better served by the Rice Mask Wash-off and cleansing foam over the scrub, as the physical exfoliation of the sugar scrub can be drying on already-dry areas. Sensitive skin should avoid the scrub and use the mask once a week maximum rather than twice.
