Start with undertone, then depth. To identify your undertone: look at the inside of your wrist in natural light. Predominantly blue-purple veins suggest cool/pink undertones - Rose family. Mostly green veins suggest warm/golden undertones - Golden family. A mix of both suggests neutral - Natural family. For depth, Natural 1 is very light, Natural 4 is medium. Golden 4 covers medium-deep warm tones. If you are between two shades within a family, the lighter shade is easier to build up with multiple layers; a shade too dark is harder to correct.
