Sekkisei Clear Wellness

Sekkisei is a long-running skincare line from Kose, a major Japanese cosmetics company. The original Sekkisei formula, launched in 1985, was built around botanical extracts from Chinese herbal medicine tradition, with a focus on translucent, even-toned skin. The brand has expanded into multiple sub-lines since then. Clear Wellness positions itself as the line targeting skin clarity and lightweight hydration within the Sekkisei family. It is not the same as the classic Sekkisei Lotion or the Super Sekkisei range; it is a distinct sub-line with its own cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF format.

Clear Wellness offers three cleanser formats for different skin types and routines. The Gentle Wash 160ml is a liquid or gel cleanser suited to everyday use on normal to sensitive skin; it appears twice in the lineup under slightly different naming (Gentle Wash vs. Seikise Clear Wellness Gentle Wash), which may indicate a regional variant or a listing duplicate. The Powder Wash DT 50g is an enzyme powder cleanser that activates to foam when wet; powders work well for weekly or twice-weekly deeper cleansing, particularly for congestion-prone skin, without the harshness of a physical scrub. The Shaking Oil Cleanser DT 170ml is a cleansing oil that requires shaking before use, typically oil-in-water or bifasic, which rinses away without leaving a heavy residue. At 170ml it is a full-size bottle for daily first-cleanse use.

The Smoothing Milk comes in two sizes: 90ml and 140ml. Both use the same formula and serve the same routine step, a lightweight emulsion applied after cleansing (and toner if you use one). The 90ml size is useful for a first purchase to confirm the formula suits your skin before committing to the larger bottle. If you have already used the Smoothing Milk and it fits your routine, the 140ml is more economical per ml. Neither is a travel or sample size; both are standard retail formats for the Japanese market.

Clear Wellness offers two 40g creams. The Water Shield Cream 40g has a water-gel or gel-cream texture, light and quickly absorbed, appropriate for oily or combination skin or for use in humid months. The Whip Shield Moisture Cream 40g is whipped to a softer, airier mousse-like texture that still provides more moisture than a pure gel but does not feel heavy. Both serve the same routine position (last moisturizing layer before SPF). If you tend toward dryness, the Whip Shield adds more hydration depth; if you run oily, the Water Shield's gel texture reduces the risk of congestion.

The Seikise Clear Wellness Face Oil Treatment 45ml is the richest product in the lineup. Face oils are applied after water-based layers (toner, essence, milk) but before or after cream depending on oil weight. A lighter, dry-finish oil typically goes before cream; a heavier, occlusive oil goes over it as the final step. At 45ml it is a standard face oil retail size. The "Treatment" designation suggests it is positioned for targeted skin support rather than as a daily occlusive, which fits the overall lightweight ethos of the Clear Wellness range.

The Clear Wellness UV Defense Gel Sunscreen 70g is unusual in that a sub-line includes an SPF product alongside its moisturizers. At 70g it is a substantial tube for daily use. Gel sunscreens from Japanese brands typically use a combination of chemical UV filters and often include a lightweight base that doubles as a primer. Japanese UV formulas are held to the PA+++ or PA++++ (UVA protection) grading system in addition to the SPF (UVB) rating; check the product packaging for the full SPF and PA ratings. Wearing this as the last step after the Smoothing Milk or a Shield Cream completes a Clear Wellness morning routine entirely within the sub-line.

A full Clear Wellness morning routine uses four products from this collection. Start with the Gentle Wash 160ml for daily cleansing (or the Shaking Oil Cleanser first if you wear overnight products or occlusives). After rinsing, apply the Smoothing Milk in whichever size you have, let it absorb, then apply a Shield Cream (Water Shield for lighter days, Whip Shield for drier conditions). Finish with the UV Defense Gel Sunscreen 70g. This four-step sequence is entirely within the sub-line. On days when you use the Face Oil Treatment, apply it after the Milk and before the Cream.

Enzyme powder washes should not replace a daily liquid cleanser; they are best used two to three times per week for a deeper clean. Dispense a small amount (roughly a half-teaspoon) into dry or damp palms, add a few drops of water, and work to a light foam before applying to the face. Rinse thoroughly. The DT designation on Sekkisei products sometimes indicates a dermatologically tested formulation. Avoid the Powder Wash on active breakouts or open skin, and do not follow immediately with the Face Oil Treatment on the same morning, as that combination may be too much for sensitive or reactive skin.
