Hair damage exists on a spectrum. At the mild end: slightly rough ends from daily ponytail friction or occasional heat. At the extreme end: structural breakdown of the hair shaft itself-raised or missing cuticle cells, cortex exposure, severe porosity, loss of natural lipid content, and reduced tensile strength (the hair stretches before breaking rather than springing back).

KERASYS Extreme Damage products are calibrated for the severe end of this spectrum. Their higher active concentrations are specifically designed to address cuticle gaps and cortex depletion that standard conditioning cannot fill. Using them on lightly damaged hair will not cause harm, but may over-condition hair that doesn't need intensive treatment-resulting in excessive softness or limpness.

Three shampoo variants target different intensity levels:

• Keramide Extreme Damage Clinic Shampoo 600 ml: entry-level ceramide shampoo for moderately damaged hair. The clinic-grade ceramide system supplements what the wash step strips, delivering ceramide during cleansing rather than only in the treatment step.
• Keramide Extreme Damage Shampoo 1000 ml: the same formula in a larger, more economical salon-size format for confirmed users.
• Advanced Keramide Extreme Damage Shampoo 1000 ml: the Advanced sub-line version with higher ceramide concentration. Recommended for hair with severe structural damage-multiple bleach sessions, combined chemical-and-heat history, or hair that has not responded to standard-concentration ceramide shampoos.

Shampoo alone delivers some ceramide benefit, but the primary ceramide loading comes from the treatment step that follows.

This is the most technically distinctive product in the Extreme line. Heat-active treatments use temperature-responsive delivery systems: when the hair is warmed (from warm rinsing water or a heat cap), the formula's microencapsulated actives open and deposit at a higher rate than they would at room temperature. Practical implications:

• Apply after shampooing to damp hair.
• Warm the hair with a heat cap, warm towel wrap, or by keeping the shower water warm while the product sits on the hair.
• Leave for 5-10 minutes-longer than a standard conditioner.
• Rinse with cool water at the end to close the cuticle after the actives have deposited.

The heat-active mechanism is not required for the product to work-it will condition the hair at room temperature-but the heat activation step maximizes the ceramide and repair active deposition per application.

The 1 L Advanced Keramide treatment is KERASYS's highest-capacity extreme damage repair conditioning product. It combines the highest ceramide concentration in the line with emollient and protein-repair ingredients in a large-format bottle designed for regular use as the primary conditioning step. Unlike the 200/600 ml treatments, the 1 L Advanced format is positioned for users who commit to daily or near-daily conditioning rather than occasional intensive treatment.

Apply from mid-shaft to ends after shampooing, leave 3-5 minutes, and rinse with cool water. For severely damaged hair, you can extend contact time to 10 minutes (it will not damage the hair-prolonged contact simply allows more active deposition).

The Extreme line includes three 70 ml serum formats:

• Keramide Extreme Damage Clinic Serum 70 ml: current standard-concentration ceramide leave-in serum. Applied to towel-dried mid-lengths and ends before styling.
• Keramide Extreme Damage Rich Serum 70 ml and Keramide Extreme Damage Serum Rich 70 ml: the Rich variant has a higher ceramide and emollient loading, producing a denser, more coating effect on the hair. Better for coarse, thick, or very dry hair; may be too heavy for fine hair. Some packaging and naming inconsistency exists between these two-functionally they are the same Rich formula.
• Advanced Keramide Rich Hair Serum 70 ml: the Advanced sub-line's highest-concentration serum, intended for severe damage where the standard serum has not delivered sufficient results.

Apply 2-4 drops to towel-dried mid-lengths and ends; comb through. Do not apply to the scalp.

For serious structural damage, a structured routine gives the best outcome:

1. Cleanse (every wash): Advanced Keramide Extreme Damage Shampoo-ceramide replenishment during cleansing.
2. Standard conditioning (most wash days): Advanced Keramide Extreme Damage Treatment 1 L-3 - 5 minutes, cool rinse.
3. Intensive treatment (1-2x per week): Heat-Active Extreme Damage Treatment 220 ml with warm water or heat cap, 10 minutes.
4. Leave-in (after every wash): Keramide Extreme Damage Rich Serum or Advanced Keramide Rich Hair Serum applied to towel-dried lengths.

With this routine, most users see meaningful improvement in 6-8 weeks-reduced breakage, improved elasticity, less dryness between washes. Continue the intensive session step until breakage reduces, then scale back to the standard treatment as maintenance.

If hair continues to break above the scalp, sheds in large quantities, or has developed "holes" where the hair looks transparently thin at certain points, those are signs of damage that cosmetic products cannot reverse. At that level, a professional consultation (hairdresser or trichologist) is needed to assess whether:

• A professional bond-repair treatment (Olaplex, Fibreplex, or similar) applied in-salon would address the remaining bond damage.
• Trimming is necessary to remove sections beyond the range of improvement.
• A break from chemical processing is needed to allow new growth without further compounding damage.

KERASYS Extreme Damage products provide the best available home-care support for severely damaged hair, but they work on what is already there-they cannot restore hair that has physically broken away. New growth coming in, combined with the repair regime, is the combination that produces lasting improvement.
