Rinse-out treatments and conditioners do good work, but they are fully washed away before styling begins. Hair is most vulnerable to mechanical damage - brushing, detangling, heat - when it is damp. A leave-in essence stays on the hair through all of that, giving continuous protection during the highest-risk part of the routine.

For hair that has been chemically processed, the protection window matters. Bleached and permed hair has a compromised cuticle that does not seal as tightly as healthy hair, making it more likely to absorb and lose moisture rapidly. A protein bond leave-in creates a temporary seal that slows that process.

The ampoule format is the most concentrated in the range. The Protein Bond Ampoule Essence (70 ml) and its variants - Flower Garden (65 ml), Extreme Damage (145 ml), Moist Ampoule Essence (145 ml), and Parfum Ampoule Essence in Pear and Freesia (100 ml) - are viscous, serum-like products that spread through damp hair before blow-drying.

Use a small amount: 2-3 drops or a 5-cent-coin-sized pump is enough for shoulder-length hair. Apply to mid-lengths and ends, avoiding the scalp. Comb through to distribute, then style as usual. The Extreme Damage variant is formulated for hair in the most compromised state - multiple rounds of bleach, heavy chemical processing, or breakage - and uses a higher concentration of bonding actives.

Water essences are the most versatile format. The Protein Bond Water Essence (200 ml), Aqua Protein Bond Water Essence (200 ml), and Flower Garden Water Essence (100 ml) are lighter in texture than the ampoule - almost fluid - making them suitable for finer hair or for use in humid climates where a heavier leave-in would feel sticky or weigh hair down.

The water essence can also be used as a refreshing spray on dry hair to revive softness between washes. Shake before use, spray evenly through mid-lengths and ends, and finger-comb to distribute. The Aqua variant has a slightly higher water content for extra hydration in very dry or low-porosity hair.

The HAiR Plus Protein Bond Oil Essence (150 ml) is a finishing product - applied last, on top of the other leave-ins or on its own. Its oil base seals in everything that has been applied earlier, adds high-gloss shine, and controls flyaways and frizz on dry hair.

Use it sparingly: 1-2 drops warmed between palms and smoothed over dry hair ends. Too much oil essence leaves hair looking greasy rather than glossy. It is most effective on thick, coarse, or frizzy hair types; fine hair should use even less or skip it in favour of the water essence only.

The Protein Bond Moist Water Essence Hair Mist (200 ml) is the most minimal format in the range - designed to be spritzing directly onto damp or dry hair without any rubbing or combing through. It is ideal for refreshing hair mid-day, adding a light layer of protein protection on non-wash days, or as the sole leave-in for hair that is in good condition and just needs light maintenance.

The mist is also convenient for travel and works well as the last step in a quick morning routine when you do not have time for a full leave-in application.

Some HAiR Plus essences come in fragrance-forward editions. The Flower Garden series carries a fresh floral profile; the Pear and Freesia Parfum Ampoule is built around a more defined perfume-style scent. The formulas are the same as the standard variants - the difference is the fragrance intensity, which is noticeably stronger and lasts through blow-drying.

If you prefer your hair care fragrance-neutral or already wear a specific perfume, the standard non-scented variants are the better choice. The fragrance editions are popular for daily use when you want your hair to smell intentionally pleasant without a separate hair perfume.

Not all steps are needed every day. For a low-effort routine, water essence or mist alone on most days, with the ampoule added once or twice a week for repair, is a practical approach.
