Finished skincare products contain a full ingredient list - emulsifiers, preservatives, fragrance, texture agents - alongside the actives. For people who want to target specific concerns with a known concentration of a specific ingredient, pure extracts give more control over what goes on the skin. They are also useful for mixing into an existing formula (such as adding centella asiatica extract to a plain moisturizer) or for layering in a routine as a dedicated serum step.

The trade-off is that pure actives require more care in use - concentration, pH, and layering order all matter more than with a formulated product that has already been calibrated for safe daily use.

Witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) extract is a well-established astringent and anti-inflammatory ingredient. It contains tannins that temporarily tighten the appearance of pores and reduce surface oiliness. It also has mild antimicrobial properties that make it useful for acne-prone skin.

In a skincare routine, witch hazel extract is typically used as a toner step on clean skin - apply with a cotton pad, swipe across the face, and follow with the rest of your routine. Use once daily rather than twice; over-use of astringents can dry the skin barrier. Choose an alcohol-free witch hazel (most Korean formulations are) to avoid the drying effect of ethanol-heavy versions common in Western markets.

Calendula (Calendula officinalis) extract is a soothing, anti-inflammatory botanical derived from pot marigold flowers. It is particularly well-suited to sensitive, reactive, or irritated skin - its flavonoids and terpenoids calm redness and support skin barrier recovery. Calendula has a long history of use in wound healing and post-procedure skin care.

Apply after cleansing, patted into the face as a first toner or serum layer. It mixes well with aloe vera gel for a combined soothing booster. On broken or reactive skin, calendula is one of the gentlest extract options available - it does not sting on compromised skin the way witch hazel or active acids can.

Centella asiatica (gotu kola) is one of the most researched soothing and barrier-repair ingredients in Korean skincare. Its active compounds - asiaticoside, madecassoside, and asiatic acid - stimulate collagen production and accelerate barrier recovery. Centella is particularly effective for post-procedure recovery, acne-prone skin prone to scarring, and general barrier-compromised conditions.

Use at the toner or serum step after cleansing. Apply to damp skin for best absorption. The vegan certification confirms no animal-derived ingredients or byproducts. Centella asiatica extract pairs well with niacinamide for a brightening + soothing combination, and with ceramide-based moisturizers for comprehensive barrier support.

Broccoli extract is rich in sulforaphane, vitamin C precursors, and other antioxidant compounds. In skincare, it is used as an antioxidant booster - protecting against environmental damage and brightening through its high antioxidant activity. It is a less common extract than the others in this range but has solid research backing its antioxidant properties.

Use as a serum step after toner. The extract is described as a premium raw liquid, indicating a high-purity concentration rather than a diluted formula. Start with a small amount - 3-5 drops - and apply directly to skin or mix into a toner or light moisturizer base. Its antioxidant function is most effective when applied in the morning under SPF.

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant that attracts and holds moisture in the skin. The low molecular weight variant penetrates into the upper layers of the skin rather than sitting on the surface, making it more effective for genuine skin hydration than high-molecular weight versions. At 1% concentration, this solution is at the higher end of the functionally effective range for daily use (most serums contain 0.1-2%).

Apply to damp skin at the toner or serum step. The 250ml size, especially the 4-piece bundle pack, is designed for consistent long-term use or for adding to other formulations. Because it is a pure solution, it can also be used as a hydrating base under heavier serums or moisturizers. Seal with an occlusive product (cream or oil) to prevent the humectant from pulling moisture out of the skin in very dry environments.

Glycerylglucoside is a next-generation humectant derived through fermentation. It works differently from hyaluronic acid - rather than drawing moisture to the surface, it enhances the skin's aquaporin channels (the biological pathways that regulate water distribution within cells), improving the skin's own ability to hydrate itself from within. It is considered a more advanced humectant than standard glycerin or HA in terms of mechanism.

At 30ml, this is a concentrated solution. Add 1-3% to a formula (a few drops mixed into your toner or serum) or use directly as a high-hydration booster step. Pure extracts require basic mixing guidelines to avoid adverse reactions:

• pH compatibility: Most botanical extracts (witch hazel, calendula, centella, broccoli) are water-based and pH-tolerant across the skincare range. Hyaluronic acid works best at pH 5-7. Avoid mixing with low-pH acids (AHAs/BHAs) in the same step - apply acid-based products separately.
• Concentration: Pure extracts are concentrated. Test on a small area before full-face use, especially if you have sensitive skin. Witch hazel in particular can be sensitizing at high concentrations on reactive skin.
• Layering order: Apply lightest/most watery extracts first, then thicker products. Pure solutions go before serums and serums before moisturizers.
• Preservation: Opened bottles should be refrigerated and used within the manufacturer's recommended period. These are active ingredients without heavy preservative systems.
