Traditional massage oil is hydrophobic-it doesn't mix with water. Applying warm water to skin after an oil massage just pushes the oil around rather than removing it. Water-soluble massage oils are formulated with emulsifiers that allow the oil phase to disperse in water: when warm water contacts the formula on skin, it emulsifies and rinses away rather than beading up.
