Hydrocolloid is a material that creates a moist environment and draws fluid - including sebum and pus - out of a blemish through osmotic action. COSRX acne patches use a thin layer of hydrocolloid that adheres closely to the skin around an active spot. Over 6-8 hours (or overnight), the patch absorbs the blemish fluid and turns white as it fills, which is an indication that the treatment is working. The patch also physically prevents touching or picking, which reduces secondary infection and post-inflammatory scarring.

The patches work best on blemishes that have come to a head (pustules) or are actively producing fluid. They are less effective on deep, cystic blemishes that have not yet surfaced.

The Acne Pimple Master Patch (24 ea) is the original COSRX patch product and one of the most well-known Korean skincare items sold internationally. Each pack contains patches in multiple sizes to fit different blemish diameters. The patches are transparent when applied, making them suitable for daytime use without appearing as obvious as a colored spot treatment. The 24-count pack is the standard unit for most shoppers.

The AC Collection version (26 pieces) is from COSRX's acne-focused sub-line and shares the same hydrocolloid format. The two products differ primarily in pack count and the associated sub-line branding rather than in core function.

The Clear Fit Master Patch (18 ea) uses an ultra-thin hydrocolloid format optimized for near-invisible daytime wear. The thinner profile reduces the visibility of the patch under makeup or in direct light, making it the better choice when discretion matters. The function is identical to the standard Master Patch, but the adhesion may be slightly less aggressive due to the thinner material, making it easier to remove without disturbing surrounding skin.

For overnight treatments where visible profile is not a concern, the standard Master Patch can deliver slightly more intensive treatment. For daytime use under makeup, the Clear Fit is the better choice.

The Advanced Snail Hydrogel Eye Patch targets the under-eye area with a hydrogel sheet that delivers snail secretion filtrate (a COSRX signature ingredient) alongside other hydrating actives. Snail secretion filtrate contains glycolic acid, allantoin, and glycoprotein enzymes that support hydration, brightening, and mild exfoliation of the thin under-eye skin. The hydrogel format allows the ingredients to remain in contact with the under-eye area during the 15-30 minute treatment session.

Available in both a single-session pack and a 60-sheet pack for extended use, the eye patches are suited for regular use when dark circles, fine lines, or puffiness are a persistent concern.

COSRX acne patches come in multi-size packs that include both smaller (around 7-8mm) and larger (around 12mm) diameter discs. Smaller patches work for early-stage or smaller spots; larger patches cover wider blemishes or cluster breakouts. Match the patch to the blemish size rather than always defaulting to the larger diameter - a patch that extends well beyond the blemish edge reduces adhesion efficiency.

For cystic blemishes that have not come to a head, a patch can serve as a protective barrier against picking without delivering the same fluid-drawing benefit as it would on a pustule.

Apply acne patches on clean, dry skin - residual serum, oil, or moisturizer on the skin surface will reduce adhesion. The standard sequence is: cleanse, tone, apply serums, then place the patch before moisturizing the rest of the face. Do not apply moisturizer or oil on top of a patch as this loosens the seal. For daytime use, apply patch before SPF or makeup; the Clear Fit variant can be concealed with foundation applied gently on top.

For overnight use, apply the patch at the end of your routine, after all other skincare, and leave on for the full night to maximize fluid absorption.

When a hydrocolloid acne patch turns white or opaque after use, it indicates that the material has absorbed fluid from the blemish. The degree of whitening corresponds roughly to how much fluid was present - a fully white patch absorbed more than one that remains partially transparent. This visual feedback is one reason hydrocolloid patches have become popular: the visible evidence of function makes it clear the product is working.

If a patch shows no whitening after 6-8 hours, the blemish may be a closed comedone or cystic nodule that has not yet surfaced. In that case, a spot treatment applied under the patch or a warm compress to encourage surfacing may be more effective first steps.
